Courchevel resort description & ski information
Courchevel is one of the most impressive ski resorts in France. It makes up part of the mind blowing Three Valleys ski area, and has a swanky reputation to go with its first class slopes. There are four main bases to choose from, each with a slightly different feel, and all linked by free shuttle bus. Families and those on a slightly tighter budget should head for Courchevel 1300, 1550 or 1650. Those with money to burn, or who manage to grab a budget bed at our Hôtel Olympic, will enjoy 1850, the most chic village in Courchevel, complete with Michelin star restaurants and an excellent night life.
Skiing in Courchevel
As part of the Three Valleys ski area, Courchevel has a vast range of skiing on offer. The resort itself is the perfect place for intermediates, with a large number of blues and reds to explore, many of them sheltered by lines of trees. Beginners are well served by a network of green runs close to the villages, and there are some excellent ski schools available. Experts can enjoy some of the toughest blacks in the Alps on runs like the Ugly Sisters, which plummet down from the Saulire through terrifyingly narrow ravines. There are plenty of off-piste possibilities too, and snowboarders have an excellent snowpark to enjoy, complete with a gentler version for novices. From Courchevel you have access to the entire Three Valleys area, which is home to 600km of pistes, and is considered one of the best and largest ski areas in the world. It contains a staggering 52 green runs, 128 blue, 123 red and 33 black, not to mention endless off-piste opportunities and some really wonderful scenery. For more information on skiing in the Three Valleys, see our pages on La Tania, Méribel, Méribel-Mottaret, Les Menuires and Val Thorens.
The Resort & Ski Accommodation Information
1850 is by far the most lively village in Courchevel, with some great shops, award-winning restaurants and serious nightlife. This all comes at a price however, and with a private airport on the mountainside nearby, there is no shortage of people ready to part with their cash. You’ll also find plenty of post-ski activities here, with a toboggan run, parachuting, bowling and a cinema. The other villages are all a lot more low-key, but still with a decent supply of unpretentious bars and restaurants. All the villages are linked by free shuttle bus, so you can always get to 1850 if you start craving the high life. Ski France features two fantastic budget busting accommodation options. Right in the centre of Courchevel 1850 we have the Hotel Courchevel Olympic and not too far away and almost a ski in-ski out 3* chalet is the Chalet Chamois. Both of these properties placing you in the centre of the Courchevel high life at fantastic reasonable prices.
